ref.1888

A rosewood combined wheel and stick barometer by C A Canti of London.  A typically Victorian design case of a wheel barometer with a pediment formed as a stick barometer, utilising the same tube that operates the wheel.   This is a rare item, only the second one we have seen, the other being in our museum.  The case has a carved shell crested pediment, moulded frame to silvered scales (replaced), set aslant; beneath the stick register plates is Canti's bow fronted detachable thermometer case with flattened spirit filled thermometer.   The dial is of typical 1860/1870 design, with the adjusting hand and the base of the barometer with carved acanthus leaf decoration.  The case re-polished in its more recent history.  Dimensions: 10 ¼" x 39 ¾"     £3450
