Ref. 2258

A mahogany veneered shell & flower inlaid wheel barometer by J M Ronketti No. 6 Peter Street, Bloomsbury, London (his later address). John Merry Ronketti was known to be working at this address from 1800 to 1819, prior to this, 1787 -1797, he was working at 180 Holborn, London. He made a very large number of very fine stick & wheel barometers. The barometer has been generally overhauled and is in good order throughout, the case is a pleasant mellow mahogany colour with architectural pediment and single boxwood stringing to edge with replacement finial and tube, brass lacquered with a traditional lacquer used on early instruments (this mixture we prepare specially from an old recipe which includes natural tree gums, saffron and dragons blood!) and spirit filled thermometer from 10 – 130 degrees Fahrenheit, the whole measuring: 39 ¾” x 10 ¼”
