How do I transport a barograph?

The standard aneroid type of barograph (one with bellows) can be transported quite easily in a car provided it is suitable packed or restricted from moving if you need to brake hard! The pen arm should be held away from the paper and any ink in the nib soaked out with a tissue so no spills occur. If travelling by carrier then they will need boxing and wrapping well. We send them worldwide with little problem but then our packing is sometimes thought of as excessive (which is better than breakages) If the barograph is travelling by air then it is advisable to disconnect the bellows from the lever system by removal of the pin in the joint above the bellows, this will allow the bellows to expand and contract with pressure without forcing the arm beyond normal travel. Of course as with most barometers it is always advisable to consider the altitude that it will be arriving at so it will actually work, we normally make special adjustments for high level use such as the Rockies or Table Mountain areas!
